BCA - Bachelor in Computer Application

BCA stands for Bachelor in Computer Application. BCA is a four-year graduate program which is a quite popular program for Computer Science (CS) and Information Technology (IT) along with other CS and IT programs. This program is more popular in South Asian countries like India and Nepal. The program is popular because of the eligibility  rule that even a non-Science background  from High School (plus two) can join this. It means even if you are from Arts, Education, commerce background in High school, you can get enrolled in this course.

BCA in Nepal

Like in other countries, the BCA course is available in Nepal too. However, this program got popularized when the oldest, biggest university of Nepal- Tribhuwan University launched this program in the year 2074/75 BS. Before that Purwanchal University and Pokhara University already had this program running.

For the TU, the course runs under Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (TU-FoHSS). In the first phase, this program was launched in six (6) constituent campuses of Tribhuvan University and are allocated 35 seats each. And later more campuses/ colleges were permitted to run this program and now almost every Colleges in Kathmandu runs this program. Other colleges in cities such as Biratnagar, Pokhara, Birgunj, Hetauda, Janakpur etc also run this program. 

Eligibility to study BCA in Nepal - TU

Minimum D+ grade in each subject of grade 11 and 12 with CGPA 2.0or more 

Or,
Minimum score of second Division in 10+2 or equivalent in any discipline.

Job and Career Prospects

Bca graduates are in high demand in the current market. Since the world is getting technological every business, organizations are getting online and advanced. And for that the market needs a lot of tech guys and BCA graduares can work as System analyst, system manager, project manager, developers , tech leads and many more. Information Technology industry and Manufacturing industry are always seeking BCA graduates.

Moreover after completing BCA, one can join master's degree. MBA, MBS  can be studied and very soon MCA is going to be launched by TU so graduates can join MCA( Masters in Computer Application).
